Review by Hendra Saepul Bakti

Mša Glagolskaja, composed by Leoš Janáček, is a masterpiece of choral and orchestral music. The album features the stunning performances of Evelyn Lear, Hilde RösselMajdan, Ernst Haefliger, and Franz Crass, who bring the unique and powerful music to life. The Chor Des Bayerischen Rundfunks and SymphonieOrchester Des Bayerischen Rundfunks, under the direction of the renowned conductor Rafael Kubelik, provide the perfect accompaniment to the vocalists, creating a deeply moving and immersive listening experience.

The album is a true showcase of Janáček's musical genius, with its intricate harmonies, soaring melodies, and richly textured orchestrations. The singers deliver the complex and demanding vocal parts with precision and emotion, bringing the listener on a journey through the spiritual themes of the work. The orchestra, too, is in fine form, providing a lush and dynamic backdrop to the vocal performances.

About Leoš Janáček Evelyn Lear, Hilde RösselMajdan, Ernst Haefliger, Franz Crass, Chor Des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Rafael Kubelik, SymphonieOrchester Des Bayerischen Rundfunks

Czech composer, musical theorist, folklorist, music writer and teacher. Born July 3, 1854 in Hukvaldy, Moravia (former Austrian Empire), died August 12, 1928 in Ostrava (former Czechoslovakia). He was inspired by Moravian and all Slavic folk music to create an original, modern musical style. Until 1895 he devoted himself mainly to folkloristic research and his early musical output was influenced by contemporaries such as Antonín Dvořák. His later, mature works incorporate his earlier studies of national folk music in a modern, original synthesis. Janáčeks later works include the symphonic poem Sinfonietta, the oratorial Glagolitic Mass, the rhapsody Taras Bulba, string quartets, other chamber works and many original operas.
