These performances are very nice. TRIVIA: (1) Leclair was a professional dancer - he was murdered late in life (age 67) and the crime was never solved. He was literally stabbed in the back. He has been referred to as the French Bach. (2) Ysaye started his career as concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic. (3) Kogan was one of five violinists (that I know of) whose wives also played professionally: Gil Shaham, Albert Markov, Ilya Kaler, and Richard Burgin. (4) One of Ysaye's violins (a 1734 Strad) was owned by Charles Munch and later by Henryk Szeryng who gave it to the Jerusalem Symphony which in turn donated it to the Israel Philharmonic. (5) Kogan's daughter Nina is a professional pianist who often accompanied her dad in recitals.
Thank you very much. I always turn to your findings. Enjoyed listening to this rare recording of Leonid Kogan with his wife Elizabeth Gilles. So wonderful sonatas. Jean-Marie Leclair was composer as well as violinist. Liked the sonata very much. Of course enjoyed the other 2 sonatas as well.
